okay since everyone is making really fucking nice AUs, I’m going to go into more detail with this one I mentioned. It was split into two segments, but it really can be just one big one, so yeah. Also there’s going to be some changes so anything stated here is “correct.”
Hinoka’s family is from Kyoto, Japan, and her family has lived there since the Edo Period, according to her brother. The family takes pride in their ties to the ancient samurai, and were quite annoyed with the abolition of the samurai class in the 19th century. Like a large portion of the samurai, many in her family moved on to secure military positions as soldiers according to western-style army structure and under noblesse oblige. Others in her family pursued business and studies abroad, being literate due to the much higher education of a samurai. Returning with new knowledge, they applied it to business upon returning to Japan.
Pressured to do well by her parents and grandparents, Hinoka excels in school in Japan until she is in the third grade. It is then that her father is offered a better paying position across the sea in the automotive industry. Seeing as he’d worked in an office in the family business, leaving it and working as a CFO in America would pay more in the long run. So for his family, he agreed to the position and moved them to the states.
Hinoka was taught the English language as a necessity when living in Japan, as it was demanded by her grandparents, and so was continuation of Japanese, even if she was born there, she’d only learned up to the third grade level. When she moved to the states, her English was not perfect, but it was enough to get by. The real problem was her accent, which she was often made fun of for. Not until she was in the seventh grade had she abandoned it almost entirely, as it only rarely made itself evident in her speech, and the teasing had stopped. Without that barrier in her way anymore, Hinoka was more confident in pursuing her interests.
She bonded rather well with her gym teacher and took on all the honors classes she could - though she rarely studied. Her gym teacher is the one who pushed her to join the school’s volleyball team, and she hasn’t regretted it. Her grandparents forced her to pursue an instrument, of her choice, so she chose percussion, and was thrown headfirst into the world of marching drill and “This One Time At Band Camp” stories. For once, she did not regret her grandparents forcing her to do something.
By high school, Hinoka was consider popular to some degree - more on the athletic side of things. Though, she was not interested in the after football game parties or the like. She still had a reputation to maintain, and took much pride in her honor. This led her to join the student council. Her brother Ryouma pushed her to join the honor society as he had, which she reluctantly agreed to apply for - and got in.
Her sports, as stated before, were volleyball and marching band. She also studied martial arts because she never wanted to be caught off guard and be unable to handle herself.
Hinoka has been flirted with by many people of all different walks of life - in fact, she had a boyfriend, once. But she had to break things off because it got in the way of her studies. She’s never accepted those kinds of affections from another since. Basically said, she’s the prude friend.
As soon as she was old enough to drive, she learned how, gained her license, but requested that she get a motorcycle license as well. And so her father - having achieved a CEO rank of his own company by then - let her, and allowed her to choose any model/parts she wanted because they were easily accessible with their orders for parts. Since she rarely asked for anything, she got it as soon as it was finished. She calls it the Tenma II, Tenma for short, after a horse she owned at the stables just outside of town who’d been put down for a broken leg.
Hinoka often rides her bike for the sheer joy of it. If someone needs to go on a grocery run, hit her the fuck up, she got you 100%. It just might take a few hours because she rides everywhere but home once acquiring supplies. She gets distracted easily. When upset, she does the same.
Hinoka can also be found dicking around in the garage or just overall being unwanted at her dad’s company’s garage. She tends to tinker with their plans - it isn’t that she fucks up anything, it’s that she makes things better and it aggravates her dad’s workers.
She tends to avoid Camilla - they’re kind of friends, but the girl drags Hinoka off to the weirdest places. Once, it was a gay bar. For women. That went over rather well.
She is friends with Tsubaki - a perfectionist - and Setsuna - who’s rather lazy. The latter of the two is one she’s always getting out of trouble. There’s also Asama, but he seems to exist with the intent to piss Hinoka off. Ryouma’s friends, Kagerou and Saizou, who are in an on-again-off-again relationship, are also good friends of hers.
Hinoka goes to every football game, but not to root for the team, but to play in the battery for marching band at half time. Though, she’s gotten a good grasp of the game over the years from sitting in the stands, playing certain things on her quints at certain plays, and just watching it play out.
After high school, Hinoka goes to college for law enforcement, but also takes a few classes in mechanical engineering.
When she is not on patrol and supervising patrol officers as a sergeant, Hinoka is giving aid in the garages if necessary. It is a well known fact who her father is, as well as a mystery as to why she hasn’t pursued a similar title. When asked, she simply smiles and says, “True samurai don’t sit behind desks - they keep injustices in check.”
